What you need to know
The Vegan Triathlon is a friendly event which has been designed for all fitness levels, ages and interests. Our aim is for participants to enjoy and push themselves in a safe, fun and supportive environment. It is a unique event where serious athletes participate alongside novices and everyone is a winner.
Date: the last Sunday in February, 3pm (arrive at 1.30pm for registration)
Venue: QE2 Park, Burwood, Christchurch, New Zealand
Cost: Please check the cost on the year page on this site as costs vary each year
Age Requirements
Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Younger vegans may participate with the signed consent of their legal guardians (see registration form). Participants under the age of 16 are expected to have a named adult to ensure their safe involvement in the triathlon. The triathlon organisers cannot look after or supervise them.
The youngest triathlon participant has been a ten year old. Younger children have participated with their parents on cycle carriers or on foot for the run event. Children participating with participating parents must also be registered but do not have to pay a registration fee.
Vegan requirements
All participants will be expected to have been vegan for a minimum of six weeks before the triathlon. Please note that the definition of vegan is 'someone who excludes all animal products from their diet'.
We are not the 'vegan police' and so take you on your word that you have the vegan credentials to participate in the triathlon.
Deadline for Registration
Register by emailing us your intentions with your contact details and by sending us the completed registration form with your registration fee. click here to download the registration form.
Because of increased interest each year and the necessity to reserve sufficient pool lanes, you must let us know of your intention to participate no later than 14 days before the event, and preferably much earlier. Late registrations may not be accepted.

Vegan owned B&B greenSpace Eco Accommodation is offering 10% discount for Triathlon participants and supporters. Please mention this offer when booking. T-shirt
Only Vegan Triathlon participants and official volunteers are eligible to wear the Vegan Triathlon t-shirt. These t-shirts must be worn for the official photographs. Extra t-shirts are available for loan for the photos if you are not buying one for yourself.
The t-shirt must be pre-ordered through us. You may provide your own t-shirt for printing or buy one through the print makers. For t-shirt ordering details, go to the page of the current year. Please note that t-shirts must be ordered with full payment no later than 14 days before the triathlon.
Volunteers
We cannot run this event without volunteers to help marshal, take timings, process registrations, take photographs and help out on the day. Volunteers do not have to be vegan. To apply to volunteer, please email us at info@vegantriathlon.org.nz. Do let us know if you have any relevant skills for the event (eg first aid or photography).
Timings
Unless you tell us not to, your timings will be recorded for each event you participate in. These timings will not be shared or published without your consent. They are for your own personal benefit so that you can have a record of your performance to match subsequent triathlon performances against.
Post Event Dinner
Vegan triathlon participants, volunteers and their friends are invited to the post event dinner at 6pm. You will need to be able to make your way from QE2 to town for this dinner. Spot prizes will be awarded at this celebration. Diners will order their own meals and drinks and be responsible for paying for what they have ordered.
Spot Prizes
Please let us know if you can help approach donors for spot prizes. These will be given at the post-triathlon dinner. Donors will be thanked on the website.
